Marilyn Monroe is The Icon of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival

What an honor!

”Fifty years after her death, Marilyn is still a major figure in world cinema, an eternal icon, whose grace, mystery and power of seduction remain resolutely contemporary. The Festival poster captures Marilyn by surprise in an intimate moment where myth meets reality — a moving tribute to the anniversary of her passing, which coincides with the Festival anniversary. She enchants us with this promising gesture: a seductively blown kiss. The Festival is a temple of glamour and Marilyn is its perfect incarnation. Their coming together symbolizes the ideal of simplicity and elegance.”

  1. I am from India but Marilyn was my most favourite star. I knew her right from 1960 when I was in 7th standard. I remember that when a beautiful girl had joined my school the students nicknamed her Marilyn Monroe. Of course personally I believe in the last 51 years or so I have not seen any other woman who was more beautiful than Marilyn. Recently after retiring when I read her bio and her struggle in life I became very sad but saluted her for living a short but brave life. I am fully convinced that Marilyn was a strong woman who will never commit suicide or overdoze on drugs. I also saw considerable materials derogatory to Marilyn on internet. However I have never believed in those lies and false stories. In my opinion Marilyn has set an example for the rest of the mankind how to fight your way through struggles and adversities. Though a short she lived a memorable and exemplary life. RIP Marilyn.
